Can you clarify what you mean when you say startup items ? Do you mean the new way by right-clicking the notification icon and checking it ?

system preferences/Users & Groups/Login Items

No right clicking, just removed Eucon from the list, rebooted and then added Eucon to Login Items again.

It now works on every boot. Must have been something left over in the previous login item that was causing the error.

I would remove it from there and do it via the notification icon, otherwise, there may be new issues in future releases.
