Hi Netmania,

Would the below workaround be an idea? I did some basic tests only... Worth giving it a try.

Store the complete Pro Tools folder (that is including subfolders and files) on a different drive and use mklink to make a shortcut as if the files were still in your Documents\Pro Tools folder.

OS: Windows 10 Pro x64, build 1909.

Pro Tools First 2019.6.

ASIO4ALL v2.14

FIRST.

I moved the complete Pro Tools folder and its contents (around 1 GByte in my case) from Documents\ to a folder on a preferred data drive (E:\bin\).

I assured that the Documents folder did not contain any Pro Tools folders or files anymore.

The new folder is then now E:\bin\Pro Tools

SECOND.

I opened CMD in Administrator Mode and entered this mklink symbolic link command (the quotes are needed because of the spaces in the folder names):

mklink /d "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Pro Tools" "E:\bin\Pro Tools"

CMD should then come back with:

symbolic link created for C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Pro Tools <<===>> E:\bin\Pro Tools

In the Documents\ folder I found the by mklink generated folder Pro Tools again but then as a shortcut.

I started Pro Tools First 2019.6 and it worked OK.

BTW. I do not sync too much to the AVID cloud at the moment since due to COVID-19 the servers over there are a bit crowdy... (untick the green Backup to Cloud bullet).

Good luck

Harry

Hi Harry,

thanks for your solution. Since I shifted to Pro Tools Full there is no need for me to go that route. By the way - meanwhile I bought a mbox2 for dirt cheap and got Pro Tools 8 LE full version without subscription. It makes fun to see how easy things can go - plug in my Mbox, fire up Pro Tools, rename and move folders etc. everything works. No Cloud, no internet, very, very fast and stable. I payed 100 Quitt for Mac mini, Mbox 2, Logic express 9 and Pro Tools 7 and 8 LE.

Pro Tools First is 8 months after release of Catalina not compatible, that's a shame in my opinion for AVID - since they loose a lot of starters that buy a new MacBook Air 2020, MacBook Pro 13 2020, MacBook Pro 16 2019, Mac mini 2020,
and Mac Pro 2019. No one with a Focusrite, M-Audio or many other Audiointerfaces who wants to Try out Pro Tools First is able to start.

Sorry Harry, bit off topic Have a nice day and stay safe.
