Default Sound Designer II - S/W to recover deleted files?

During a recent (and rather manic) clean-up of hard-drives and old sessions, someone (moi?) managed to delete six months work saved as sound designer 2 files. The drive in question has not been touched since as I am hoping that somewhere some magician has a wand to make sdII files reappear! It would mean so much if I could get this stuff back. Please help with suggestions or ideas of where I might get help. Thanks!

I did a search on versiontracker.com:

Looks like there are no free solutions, you´ll have to buy software. But as long as you dont use the disk, and do not startup from it you should be able to recover everything with the right software. I myself used Norton Unerase with much success several times, but that was back in the OS9 days.
Good luck.

Might be worth a call to one of the data recovery services like DriveSavers to compare cost & risk against attempting it yourself.

Thanks Jeff.
I am fairly adept with computers (no sniggering given context of my problem) and I feel confident to try and rescue the lost files myself.
Are there any perils that I may be unaware of?

Hi Ben,
Thanks & I'm at the point that $$ are worth recovery.
I have the latest version of Data Rescue II - is this any use? I haven't had luck with it so far . . . . SuziQ

As far as I can see, Data Recovery should be able to do the job. They say on their page that all types of media files are recoverable. I havent used it myself though. Doesnt it work at all, or what? Does it not find anything?

I have a similar problem. An engineer at ProSoft told me that Data Rescue cannot recover .sd2 due to their peculiar mapping. I have been searching the net for someone who has actually recovered .sd2 files. So far no luck, which is leading me to believe it never has been done.
