Delay before recording: Double click the metronome icon and check your settings there for countoff enabled in record.

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
Even though 10GB ram USED to work for LE 8 ... I suspect 10GB is part of the problem. Pretty sure you'd be better off with 3 matching ram sticks for that motherboard. MATCHING, meaning 3 x 8GB or at least 3 x 4GB of the same make/model. Make sure the ram timings in bios are correct for the ram, too. Perhaps others with more X58 expertise will chime in. Definitely do all the AVID optimizations, too.

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
Indeed^^^ Here's what strikes me(in no particular order) based on also owning/running 2 different X58-based systems
1-X58 motherboards are(were) designed to run Triple-channel RAM, so 3 or 6 matching sticks nets the best performance(not what you have going on) 2-just because it runs 8LE well is no guarantee it will do well with PT12(in fact, my original X58/i7 920/6GB of RAM ran PT10 beautifully, but dragged its butt on 11). My followup machine(X58A/i7 950/12GB RAM) fared much better, but it got way better when I moved to an X79-based 6 core. 3-It might be worth going into the BIOS and checking a few details, like Floppy drive(should be Disabled) and review all the recommended system tweaks. 4-PT8 LE will run on a 64 bit OS. Back to my first i7 920(LE 8.0.5 ran very nicely on that rig with Windows XP. When I switched to Windows 7 x64, the performance boost was pretty serious with no other changes(exact same system, only changed the OS). Dverb score went from 300 to 500 But again, newer versions of PT seem to require more horsepower for each numeric update(9>10, 10>11, 11>12....). Considering the age of the computer, I would keep running LE8 and start saving pennies for a newer machine to run PT12. Just an opinion

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
If the drive you are recording to is not NTFS formatted, that can wreak havoc. I don't know about Pro Tools but Logic for PC, way back in the day, would have a well known delay when recording if you were using FAT32 file systems. The cure was NTFS. Remember that reformatting your drive erases everything!

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
Hi everyone. I really appreciate your suggestions. I am very scheptical about the 10 gig ram being an issue since every other program I use works flawlessly including Reaper and Premier CS3, however I am not closed to that being a possibility.
Elastic audio is not enabled. the graphics card has been updated. the file system for the drive is NTFS. I am going to try installing PT8LE with my lame Digirack002 on my 64bit partition to see if it functions but I am definitely losing interest in Pro tools 12 and will probably cancel my subscription unless I can talk to an AVID representative on the phone. As we all know, communication through text is frustrating most of the time. |

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
Hello again. So I should have emphasized that my issue is NOT related to latency. Recording functions fine it's just that there is an annoying 6 second delay after I press record before the recording starts. There is also a 6 second delay after the recording is stopped before the waveform shows up.
I wasted more money by upgrading my RAM to 20 Gigs and, as I suspected, this did not change the issue. The countoff is not enabled. In fact, the pre roll function does not work. Thanks for any suggestions or help. I like some of the features of pro tools 12 and would gladly continue my subscription if I can get this working. Otherwise I'll try and get a better grasp of Reaper. |

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
johntee:
Do you have any third party plugins installed on your system? If so move them over to the unused plugins folder (with PT shut down) and try PT again and see if you get that delay. Doesn't matter if the plugins are used or not - as long as they're in the regular plugins folder they can cause havoc. |

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
Thanks for this suggestion. 2 questions: How do I distinguish which are the third party plugins and where is the unused plugins folder located? Thank you

Re: 6 second delay before recording begins
The unused plugins folder is in the same folder as the regular plugins folder. Third party plugins are those that don't come with PT; you should remember what third party plugins you installed on your system. There is no direct way of telling whether a plugin is third party or Avid just by looking at the filename.
