Default Help! I am picking up radio stations on when I record through my MBOX pro 3

I plugin my condenser ksm 9, i turn on phantom, turn up the pre, and boom there it is. radio static. i can practically hear what the talk show host is saying :P

i was trying to mic up my ac.guitar when i noticed it in the background. I tried moving things around since i thought it was power cables running over or close to my mic, mbox cables, but to no avail. Does anyone know how to fix this? is this a problem with the mbox, with my mic or with my xlr cable?

thanks

Nik

Is all your gear grounded? (i.e. you're not using any ground-lift adaptors on your power cables or power strips)

If that's not it, I'd start with swapping out the XLR cable.

It`s because your cable is unbalanced.

I think it`s maybe the wiring of the cable. If one of the connections has jumped of, the cable will pick up signals from the atmosphere like old guitars with unbalanced wiring.

Make sure all your cables are balanced. Start by disconnecting one cable at a time until the radio station goes away. That will identify your bad cable.

Are all your gear plugged into the same electrical outlet?

Most likely, the mic cable is fine. Phantom power would not work(IOW, the mic would not work) at all with any bad connection. The mic works, but adds radio interference? Are you located near a transmitter? I would certainly try other mics(and other cables, just to be thorough). I would also try all(both?) mic preamps to see if maybe 1 works good, indicating some bad filtering on the bad channel(s). If that's the case, then you would likely get a warranty replacement from your dealer(you just need to be sure of the issue and cause).

Apparently same mic and same cable no problem at all on 2 out of four xlr inputs with the front #1 being loudest RIF and #2 just hissy. 3 and 4 in the back are just fine.

Im calling support asap:)

thanks for the help people!

I am having this same problem. What was the resolution? Was the hardware bad? Mic 01 is picking up the RF Modulation the worst.

There is also a lot of latency while recording in the headphones. Did you ever notice this?
