Default Windows 10 Digi 003 clocking issue.

Hi,

I have posted here because i suspect this is a windows issue.

I am running pro tools 12. Using Digi 003 and Apogee AD16x (via ADAT)

The problem is - the pull down menu in clock source box will not remain on “ADAT”. It gives me the option, but when i select ADAT the clock source remains on “Internal”. I would like to clock to the AD16x.

Can anyone help?

Thankyou.

Hmmm,

1-is the sample rate on the Apogee a match to the sample rate of the session?(if it isn't, then that could explain PT reverting to internal)

2-is the sample rate set to either 44.1K or 48K?(the lightpipe on the 003 cannot do higher sample rates)

3-are both ends of the lightpipe "cable" fully seated(this happened to me once or twice) and connecting the OUTPUT of the Apogee to the INPUT of the 003?(don't laugh, its happened)

4-(shooting in the dark a bit as I have not used the Apogee), is the Apogee set to use its own internal clock(so its NOT looking for external sync)?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions!

I believe the issue is with Windows 10. I know this because i tried another hard drive with windows 10 on it plus Pro tools etc in my computer and I was able to change the clock source to ADAT (as desired) no problem. Unfortunately, I am unable to use this second hard drive, so the issue remains. Clock source is stuck on internal and wont budge.
It has to be a setting in Windows 10 somewhere. Or some other issue there.

Does anyone have any suggestions about this?

Thankyou

As with all Windows setups, have you set(in Windows Sound Properties) Windows to use the on-board sound card as its "default playback device". If Windows is using the 003, it will lock out the 003, preventing Pro Tools from controlling the sample rate(and the clock)
