PT crashes/freezes when changing to another project or on shutdown

I had this problem on 8.01 already, trashing the prefs helped.
now after having installed the CS1 update I'm having the same problems again...and trashing the prefs doesn't help this time....

whenever I open another session (while PT is already open) it takes AGES to open the session (like 5 minutes or so), and most of the time Pro Tools just crashed during that time, or freezes right after the new session has been opened.
also the closing process takes about 5 minutes, IF it closes at all, often it crashes here, too.

So now I have to force-quit PT every time I wanna work on another session, this takes loads of my time.

Does anyone esle have a similar problem, is there a fix?

I'm using PT8 HD on a Mac G5 PPC with OS X 10..5.8

I don't know what this little pref/trash tool did, but it helped (perhaps the database folder? dunno)...

thanks for writning that little tool, trashing the prefs manually didn't help
