Smile Re: ProTools 10 Students

To all those worried about the upgrade from Pro Tools 9 academic to Pro Tools 10 academic.. stress not.

There is a difference between an Update and an Upgrade.

Updates are corrections to a specific version of pro tools and have always been free, hence, "4 years of free updates" would be an invalid and deliberately misleading statement to make

Upgrades however are migrations from one version to another and generally cost money.

You have been offered, in writing, "4 years of free UPGRADES"

NOW THE WAITING GAME

Hoping that you are correct in your assumption. I am a longtime Logic user that just purchased my first copy of Pro Tools ever (PT 9 native, student edition) on August 25th.

Waiting for an official response from Avid to confirm what will happen to people like me.

EDIT: I just got my email with activation code today (October 23rd, 2011). Downloading now. Thank you Avid! :)

I too bought a Student Crossgrade from LE 8 to 9 on the 27th of september and registered it on the 28th. I said it came with 4 years free upgrades so any official word on whether or not we get the free upgrade to 10 (and successive versions) would be great!

Hope thats not the case.

I've just spent the £230 upgrade from v9 to v10.

My V9 was not an 'academic' version (upgrade from v8 which was not either)

I'm in full time HE education studying music tech. I'm also PT training qualified via my studies.

What do you think i can do?

Was anyone able to register their student versions of PT9? Do we have to do anything other than have the PT9 license in our Avid/ilok accounts to receive the PT10 upgrade?

I'm guessing it's only the license we need - mine was a student version and I searched through the box today in case I missed the registration card but all I could find was the license activation code.

Also, this was brought to my attention:
http://www.avid.com/US/resources/Academic-Eligibility

On there it clearly states that by purchasing a student/educational PT you are eligible for 4 years of free upgrades

I am in the same boat as everyone here. I recently purchased the Academic Pro Tools 9 and registered mine on September 28th... Just a few days before the cut off upgrade date. I am hoping that we get the free 4 years of upgrades because I can not afford to pay the upgrade price when I JUST bought Pro Tools 9.
