Default NEW Neve vs. OLD Neve

Hey guys,

I'm interested in getting an AMS/Neve 1073 DPA Mic Pre. I hope this page loads:

My question is, how different are these new re-issues, compared to the originally built ones? Huge sonic difference? I imagine the newer ones are a bit more stable with modern PSU's etc.

Thanks for any info,

Tom.

My ears cannot tell a difference between the old and the "reissues" from AMS|Neve with their other models. I imagine it would be the same with this one, though I have no experience with it personally.

I often can tell a difference b/w the original/reissue's from ams/neve and the "clones" from other companies...usually in the bottom end.

Hey, I would check over at gearslutz about that question. It´s a good forum for those issues. I don´t really know anything about the 1073 DPA but I heard that it would not use input/output transformers and the gain stages are supposed to be different, as well. I guess somebody should give this thing a close listen. There´s also the aurora stuff (GTQ-2) from Geoff Tanner, that one might be pretty close to the 1073 pre´s, Tanner used to work for Neve for 15 years or so.

Here´s the links:
