Default Parallels and ProTools 18.4

You might wanna read a bit more then.

You can create a VM of Mac OS running on Mac OS. IOW - you can run older versions of Mac OS using Parallels Desktop on Mac OS which is what the OP suggested and you said it wasn’t possible. Unless I misunderstood what you wrote.

Like I said, it’s no longer only for running Windows on Mac OS in a VM.

I can't find that anywheres on the product page. If it does that then it's in the very fine print as they tout if for running Windoze on a Mac.

You can run MacOS under Parallels on a Mac. I used to do it for some development and testing. But you really can't run audio much beyond the basic built-in stereo drivers. Even then it doesn't work very well.

I had a period where I was using Parallels for both Win and Mac VMs but gave it up after a while. It was just too slow and gimpy--and very bad at audio. I bit the bullet and set up another couple of physical computers for remote login.

The advice of a separate boot partition is a good one. Short of a second Mac, I think it's the best option you've got.

And a second partition is free
