Mastering walkthrough?

I'm about to home master a track in Pro Tools for the first time. Any advice on where to find a good "walkthrough" of the basics? I've routed all my recorded tracks to a submix bus on which I have inserted buss compression, and some eqs. Should I now route this to a Master bus, or bounce to a WAV/AIFF file then master that? First time doing this!

The end format is not that relevant but to master you have to be shure and have a really good translation from your monitors to external sources. Good monitoring ! This goes above everything, apart from that except +experienced ears+ you can find it on google or youtube .

Or buy Ozone 8 and use the master assistant. Since you're new to doing this, my suggestion is; keep it simple, don't get too fancy and don't over-think it

That probably bears explanation, so here 'tis:
The 2 biggest reasons to pay a real ME(just my opinion) are; a fresh set of ears and (hopefully) a vastly superior listening situation(monitors and room acoustics). Since you won't have either of these, that's why I suggest keeping it simple(and listen back on several systems(the car, earbuds, the next room, the neighbor's, etc)

I found this little free course by Dave Darlington was a great introduction to mastering. Albeit using Waves plugs which they get a fair plug (pun intended)
