Re: Alesis - DM10 Pro Kit
Ive got a really cheap digital drum kit session pro 505 i think?? It does not trigger double kicks which is a right pain. Therefore im looking to upgrade. I use the digital kit to trigger Steven Slate 4 in pro tools so im not to fussed about the sounds in the moduale but i do need it to trigger double kicks. Ive looked at the DM5 but all the people in the shops say its to loud acoustically due to the skins and that the rolands are better made.
What do you guys recommend i dont want to spend a fortune will the DM5 do the job or should i buy a roland....... or are there any other suggestions

Re: Alesis - DM10 Pro Kit
Just my opinion, but they feel more like real cymbals(more drummers are content to play on them), they don't make any more stick noise than rubber pads and they are more normal in size(so at least the perception is better). They are also way cheaper than the better Roland cymbals(saw a 3 pack on eBay for $299 and you can get another for around $100-120 for a full set). When I use one for hat, I clamp it to a real hihat stand/clutch, spin the stand so the pedal points away, and drop the Roland pedal in the "normal" position. If I want a real hat(which I usually do), I swap the brass and spin the stand
BTW, they are SUPPOSED to mount on special adapters that have a pin to stop them from rotating, but it is not been an issue here.

They are not really loud at all - at least b/c of the heads anyway
But it really depends on what you're using them for the Roland's will probably be 20 times quieter If You're tracking in a live room then yeah I would set up some baffles for sure Yeah the surge symbols are awesome man I have to catch myself I think I'm playing real cymbals when I hear the sounds the program sounds out of that head with the surge cymbals really feels like a ride and a crash it's awesome
