About $350.00 Australian, all serial midi interfaces, but to achieve the ultimate in midi tightness, attatch a dumb single serial to midi interface using freemidi. If you have been using a multi port device and the familiarity of OMS (Studio 5 etc) you will achieve a slightly better performance than a standard mac serial port.

Bill
Are there any tests that you have conducted that you can share with us?
I did some midi recording yesterday with the AMT-8 via USB What a F***** mess
the latency is horrible,i had to edit and place everything manually to the grid. What is the pupose of recording midi if i have to do this!!! I hope Digi rectifys this in future upgrades!!Digi needs to abandon OMS and write there own code BADLY!!!!
Digi i hope your listening!!

I am not surprised that you have awful results with an AMT8 and USB. USB is unsuitable for serious MIDI use. Period. The so called "advanced MIDI timing" is a trick that preloads MIDI data into the interface and then times it out from there to get over the delays in USB. This only works in playback where the data is already known and within Logic. It does not work in record and with other manufacturers software.

We've already got too much BADLY written software, what we want is a WELL written MIDI system.

does anyone know about the new spec on USB 2.0(I think it's 2.0) it's a new improved version of USB that is supposed to have the capacity to run digital audio in addition to everything else it's expected to do( the audio has to be a joke) but maybe it's will run midi more reliably. I know it's expected to be out as we speak.

Yup! Its gonna be a while before we see that (MLAN) but it looks very promising.I think digi will not upgade to 96K (no new hardware this year) and will be going firewire. This is the future!!!
