Video over 13:40 jumps back to the begining
Major glitch with a 20 film that I can't figure out. Please assist.
I have imported and synched sound to .mov files in the past with no issues. But all films have been under 13 minutes. 20 minute .mov video plays perfectly in quicktime. Imported to PT10. Thumbnails show correctly for entire video. Video plays fine until 13:40 then the image jumps back to the start (repeating the first 6:20). Audio continues to play correctly in other tracks. Clarification, the image jumps back to the start not the curser, time, sound. This occurs during playback, scrubbing and bouncing. The same result occurred when: Creating a new session. Importing a different 20 minute film. Importing the video into a previous session where I had no issues. Though an interesting thing occurred. Initially the video played fine. But when I moved the video track by a few seconds, the initial problem returned. I slid it back to where it had worked, and the problem remained. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Re: Video over 13:40 jumps back to the begining
Glitch remains, but I found a work around.
Separate the clip so that no section is over 13 minutes. By doing so the entire video plays and I can move it around as well. Am curious as to why it is happening in the first place. |

Re: Video over 13:40 jumps back to the begining
This problem was first observed with PT 8. The fix is to put an edit in the video track a minute or two before the jump occurs, similar to what you have posted. The problem occurs only with h.264 or mp4 video files, AFAIK it does not happen to PT11 or 12's updated video engine. It is a real screwball, though, when it happens.

Thanks Postman for the comment. Yeah, it was a hard one to wrap my head around.

Re: Video over 13:40 jumps back to the begining
I've experienced this as well - it may have something to do with video file size and addressing. i.e. above a certain file size, the video engine wraps the pointer for the frame requested. By placing clip breaks in the video timeline, you force the engine to offset it's frame request from the top of that clip rather than the beginning of the file. At least it's an easy workaround.
