Default Using 888\'s as standalone D/A

We would like to use AES in 3/4 of one of our 888's to play back a stereo stream of another editing system. How is this possible without running an Aux in of PT? PT obviously can't be running, correct? Thanks.

Best regards,
Siegfried Meier

thats how i get it , output of your aes device , connected to the aes - ins of the 888/24 ,create 2 channels , select input 3-4 digital in the setup menue , press record on those tracks and thats it.
dont get what you mean with an aux - input ???
or even about the topic itself " as standalone d/a " .
if PT is your frontend your suggestion would work like that - digital device outs - standalone 888 ins - standalone 888 outs - Protools connected Interface ins - that doesnt make sense at all ???

maybe its too late and i am not gettin it ???

I'm using a different editing program and I'm trying to use 2 digital inputs of an 888/24 as my input so that I may monitor through a pair of D/A converters on that 888. With me? I don't want to use ProTools at this point. I believe the converters can only function if the Mac is actually not turned on at all. The only way I can make this work is to create an AUX in(same as making a new track and record enabling), set that for input 3/4, and make inputs 3/4 digital in the Digi control panel. Still with me?

Best regards,
Siegfried Meier
