Default MIDI Controller Compatibility

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows if Akai APC 40 and/or Livid Instruments Lividbase 01 is compatible with the most recent version or pro tools. I would like to know before buying one of them. If not, does anyone recommend a certain MIDI controller.

A lot depends on exactly what you want to do with these controllers. Are you just trying to use them for triggering notes in PT from the pads? Are you also trying to use the controls to work controls in a vi in PT? What you should do is to purchase from a place that has a good return policy and try one then the other to see if it works. Part of the issue is these controllers were meant to work with Ableton Live.

There are better controllers to do that. I'd suggest something with a keyboard and not just pads; there are some keyboards that have a combo of both.

M Audio has always been good for me. I have the semi weighted 88 keys. I don't know how many keys you need. I also use a small controller as well. Korg has the NANO Keys and there is another that I like call Xkey. Yhey both have 25 keys at a VERY reasonable price

And by the way, the keys I just mentioned, work in Pro Tools. When it gets to pro tools, There is a process sometimes you must follow to get the key boards recognized

I had a lot of grief trying to get this ' Lil Akai MPK Mini up and running in Pro Tools 12.. i found not much in way of 'Definitive' answers out there on Akai's site or the 'Inter web' ..as if they know there is a glitch or compatibility issues ..
running mac OSX 10.13.6 , with PT 12 thru UA Apollo.
I just wanted to use a Midi key board for some little horn pops , bumps etc on demos I'm tracking in PT , and after a long set up with the Akai, downloading some good sounding loops etc (You tube was one of the better instructional resources i found )
I had the 'MPC Essentials' Akai's little sampling , looping program going fine, although how the different modes inside work and how to program individual pads etc couldn't figure out or seem to find the instructions anywhere ! when i bought some great sounding 'Wav' horn sounds, to play thru the Akai couldn't find any info on how to do it and the previous set ups were of no use .. not even a 'How To' with their 'MPC Essentials' set up..spent a lot of time re -downloading , configuring etc to make sure i hadn't gone 'wrong'-er and I couldn't ever get the MPK Mini working as well, easily , intuitively,as my cheap , simple M- Audio Midi keyboard..so havn't used it at all, was such a hassle! it's probably something so simple and dumb, right in front of my eyes , so to be fair, i'm not a pro engineer , i just play one in the dark.. but i've had better experiences with other midi keyboard / controllers, that seemed to have some instructions or support etc Seemed like pro Tools wasn't who Akai MPK Mini was worried about..any hoo , just my couple of sheckles- JP Korg III ( sry, i'll leave comedy to the professionals !)
