Hardnox:

We've got two of these right now
http://www.cooldrives.com/newatlardriv.html
and they work with 50+ track count of 24/48 on Mac G4 800MHz HD3 Accel...no sweat.

I also use
http://www.granitedigital.com/catalo...tswapdrive.htm
on my Pro Tools LE rig for PC and that's cool too--32 track count.
You can rig it with some removable drive action.

Good luck.
Keeron.

I've had no complications with either LaCie d2 or Granite Digital drives (fw 400, not 800). Both used with OS 10.3.4 & PT 6.4cs5 on a G4 1GHz dual processor, and in conjunction with LaCie Firewire CD-R & SCSI drives... everybody's been playing very nicely together! Hope this helps.

Warmest Regards,
Brian

HardNox ,,, hope this helps,,, and from what I get from it,, prety much ANY firewire drive will work,, AS LONG AS it meets certain requirements ,, mainly 7200Rpm ,, but here is a quote straight from Digi:

Although not fully tested and supported with Pro Tools systems by Digidesign, you may be able to use firewire drives from other manufacturers with similar results, given the same guidelines noted above. To date only Firewire drives with the following specifications have performed well with Pro Tools systems:

Oxford 911 Firewire bridge chipset

7200 RPM drive

Check with the drive manufacturer to verify that their drive has the "Oxford 911" or comparable chipset & drive speed of 7200 rpm.

Additional Notes for Macintosh System Compatibility and Portability

While third-party drive format utilities may work on the owner's CPU where that application's software and extensions are installed, the best way to ensure compatibility on all Macs with firewire drives is to use the Apple Erase Disk function in Mac OS 9 for formatting, or the Mac OS X Disk Utility as outlined above. If you plan to also use your Firewire drive on other machines that may not have the same third-party drivers, your drive may not mount on that machine, or you may experience DAE or system errors. The guidelines listed previously on this page for the DigiDrive FireWire 80 will generally yield the best results when using Firewire drives with Pro Tools.

Excellent, thanks a lot guys! Also, I have been getting some freezing goin on with PT a lot lately mainly with Spectrasonics Trilogy, i have a G4 466 with 1.25 GB RAM, i do have 1 256 mb ram apple chip and then two 512 mb chips i bought at frys, the spectrasonics guy told me that may be a problem, but im not quite convinced... do i need to upgrade my cpu?
