Default Mac Pro 2010 2.8 GHz Quad Core vs. 2008 2.8 GHz 8-Core

I apologize if this has been mentioned before, but I can't seem to find a thread about these two particular models:

2010 2.8 GHz Quad Core Mac Pro (current)
vs
2008 2.8 8-Core Mac Pro (Harpertown)

They're roughly the same price now (eBay) and I'm debating on which one to get. I've heard the Harpertown is pretty much the bullet proof desktop for PT, but is it future proof?

Both machines I would max out the RAM completely.

What would you do?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing is future proof. Nothing.

And for comparison between various Mac Pro models, check these shootouts:

Not sure that both models are represented in either one, but should give you an idea between various chip models etc.

Thanks for this! Looks like the 2008 Harpertown Mac Pro is still a tad faster than the 2010 Mac Pro.
