Default Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.3, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I recently got this laptop - Dell Inspiron Studio 15, 1555 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I've been running into a lot of problems. First when recording, Pro Tools will lock up, not stop and I have to force shut down of the program.
Other times on playback, the sound degrades on some tracks to a distorted, bit crunched sound.
For the recordings I actually captured, there are pops, clicks and other problems with the sound.
The whole system is unusable for sessions, as I cannot have my clients deal with these types of issues.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried using 8.0.1cs1 ?

I would try that and let us know how you get on in comparison with these current problems you're having.

What are you recording to?

Are you recording to your system drive?

What are your system specs? What M-Audio device are you using?

Where is your SANDRA REPORT?

Also 8.0.3 on W7 64 BIT is a BETA it aint ready for prime time.

Have followed this link? "Help us help you - what you need to know before posting!"

YoRugMan - do you mean 8.0.3cs1, or should I uninstall 8.0.3?

Uninstall 8.0.3 and try 8.0.1cs1

Not sure if it will work though, given that you've indicated you're using a 64bit OS.
Just make absolutely sure you've got the latest M-Audio drivers installed too.

True, but M-Powered is currently more stable than LE....

He should try everything else you've suggested though.

I'll gather the SANDRA REPORT and post it when I get home.
I know it's in Beta, but I didn't realize it would have a ton of issues.
I have the newest Driver installed for the Firewire 410 from M-Audio.

Should I just move back to Windows XP?

If you're in need of getting some music done - yes, go back to XP.

I've had M-Powered 8.0.3 working great on W7 64bit, but I've gone back to XP because of third-party VI related issues.
M-Audio's drivers are fully W7 64bit supported (depending on your interface of course).
