Default PT 8.5 crackles when playing Mini Grand

I'm using Pro Tools 8.5 on my Windows XP SP3 system. 4GB RAM, Intel Dual Core CPU. Everything was working great. Then I moved my old Project Files to a new folder. I had installed PT with the Project Files on the C drive, but a year ago I moved them to another drive. I happened to see my old Project Files (they were not being used) & moved them to the new Project Folder. At the time I PT was open & running. As soon as the files hit the new folder, PT started making crackling noises every time I played a note with the Mini Grand.

Now, I've done everything I can think of & I cannot get the crackling sound to go away! I've tried moving the files back, but that didn't help so I put the back in the new project folder. I've defraged the C drive & the drive with my Projects. I've run chkdsk on the C drive, that took 17 hours to completed, but it didn't find any errors & the crackling sound is still there.

I even thought the Mini Grand might have gotten corrupted, so I copied the .BIG file over from another good system I have.

It doesn't crackle on anything else that I can tell. It ONLY crackles in PT & with the Mini Grand.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? I'm not sure how the databases work, so I didn't want to delete anything. I'm at the point of removing PT & installing it again.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Default [Resolved] PT 8.5 crackles when playing Mini Grand

Thanks for all the responses. . At least I didn't get any insults or crazy ones like try putting your shoes on the other feet or did you make sure you checked the oil in your car every Tuesday?

It turned out to be a bad hard drive, of all things. I guess the Mini Grand must put extra stress on the hard drive when it streams data, because this problem ONLY showed up in PT & only with Mini Grand. Other recording software &/or Plug-Ins didn't have this problem.
