Default Internal SCSI HD Performance in G3

I will be using the Digi001 with a beige G3 300MhZ (I've seen the known bug info). My question regarding the hardware is:

The beige G3 is "plumbed" for a second SCSI internal drive. If I get a large capacity internal drive from the list of Digidesign recommended manufacturers, will the performance be adequate?

If not and I have to go the route of an external HD, I was told today by Sweetwater that I might need a high speed SCSI card because of data transfer performance requirements and because the standard SCSI connector on the back of the G3 is different (68 pin on the drive vs. 50 pin on the CPU).

Any insight on this from anyone?

Thanks,

Paul
