Just curious as i'm about to get my new PC which is windows 10 and i'm going to try continue using Protools 10. Want to know which update is best to keep it at as it will be an offline PC.

Thanks

I took it back to a date I knew it was working well but same Hang up so next I backed out all the Window updates. Didn’t make a bit of difference. Still stalled at Windows Installer.

Nothing, just the optimizations. It has been installed since one of the first builds of W10 or probably W8 idk, it just keeps working fine update after update.

For my friends usiing Pro Tools HD-10 on Windows 10...I am running on a custom built desktop. My issue was that randomly, while recording or mixing, PT would stop with the -9073 (disk not fast enough) error. I noticed that randomly, the pro tools performance window would show near 0% utilization, then show spikes in the disk utilization bar and the Windows task manager just before I got the error. This was bizarre because my PT sessions data drive is made up of two 1TB 7200 RPM hard drives in a striped RAID-0 configuration, which is fast and ideal for audio and video work. After what seemed to be eons of searches to solve this problem, I came across a YouTube video describing how to get a handle on erratic Windows disk activity https://youtu.be/Enh3gPc3HVs . I applied some of the tweeks to Windows 10, and for days I have not gotten that error. No guarantees, of course, but this might for you as well.

PT10 on Windows 7 has been rock solid on three systems for many years but with the upcoming end of service for Win7 I have started to do some testing with Windows 10.

Although I have PT12.5 (no longer installed) I have compelling reasons especially for editorial to continue running PT10.
Running a test system of PT10.3.10 on Windows 10 (1809) and it has been working very well.
Clearing out a lot of the ridiculous Win 10 bloat is a pain but worth the trouble.
For now leaving auto updates running to see how it affects the rig/workflow.
If Windows Defender is running very important to create exclusions for the plugin folder and Avid folder where PT is located.
Pro Tools 10 performance has improved on Windows 10.

"If Windows Defender is running very important to create exclusions for the plugin folder and Avid folder where PT is located."

Go into Windows Defender>Virus & Threat Protection>Manage Ransomware Protection and turn off Controlled folder access. Then you won't have to exclude any folders.

But, read up on what Controlled folder access is for, you may or may not want to turn it off.

W8.1 and 10 both worked better for me than 7 ever did.

Controlled Folder Access was/is off (by default?)

If I don't exclude the plugin folder Pro Tools re-scans the plugins at each launch as if it was just installed. Very slow and annoying.
