002R: Outboard Midi Port Options?

Hello,

Is there anything special I need to be aware of in order to get more midi inputs by employing another midi interface? What is the process to check compatibility?

Version: PT 7.4
Hardware: 002 Rack and Mackie HUI
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 55I P55 R (using I5 750 quad @ 2.66Ghz.)
Ram: 8G
OS: XP SP3
Available Midi Interface: MOTU Fastlane USB

Pretty much any USB-MIDI box should work fine. I have the MOTU FastLane USB 2x2 here and its been great. Between that and the onboard midi of the 002/003, I had no issues using a Roland TD-10 kit, Yamaha Motif es8 and an old Ensoniq keyboard at the same time, to "play" SD2(drums), MiniGrand(from the Motif) and DB-33(from the Ensoniq). Once you load the drivers and assign things properly in Setup>Midi>Midi Studio(inside PT), it works fine.
