Default Hum, noise, buzz using analog I/O outboard

I searched the DUC and the best I could find was this thread:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=88864

As you can see, nothing is conclusive. I might have better luck searching if we were allowed to sure for three-letter words such as "hum," but we can't.

I'm getting a hum when I connect outboard to either 5-6 or 7-8 stereo I/Os of my Digi 002. It happens with my Lexicon MPX500 and my TC Electronic M300 as well. When I turn off the device, the hum goes away, so it's only affected by the analog inputs and outputs.

Anybody know how I can get rid of this?

G4 Dual Quicksilver
Pro Tools 6.4
Digi 002
Lavry Converters running from Lavry to S/PDIF input of Digi 002.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Are you using balanced cables to and from the reverbs? Are they plugged into the same power source(AC outlet) as the 002? If they have grounded AC plugs, you can test for a ground loop by using an AC adapter with no ground(the cheap grey adapters from Home Depot. If that fixes the noise, now you need to fix it right(don't leave the AC 'cheater" as a long term solution). Probably cutting the shield connection at one end of each balanced cable will be the right fix.

Every musician, studio engineer, or any one that uses sensitive electronics should have one of these with them at all times. They will save your butt or at least cancel out any unknowing problems, and they are less than 5 bucks. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...0051&langId=-1

also, check to make sure that none of the offending cables or devices are near computer fans, florescent lights, your computer screen or laying over power cables or transformers. These things will add hum, and buzzing, more so if your cables are not properly shielded.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason, I'm not getting my email notifications about this so that's why I'm late to respond.

Yes, I'm using balanced cables and yes, both units are plugged into the same surge protector.

I'll try your other suggestions this week and report back.

Thanks!
