Default TOSLink cable

Hi,

Yesterday i did a live recording, and i noticed some digital pikes coming out of my OctoPre
I've connected my OctoPre to my 002R via a TOSlink adat cable. A very thin one.
Can these spikes being caused by the cable if it's broken? i've replace it with another (same thin type)
and spikes are gone.

What is a good cable to by? I there realy difference?

Thanks

Jeroen

The spikes probably have to do with not having the clock set to optical/ADAT when tracking. Lightpipe cables ARE thin, so no worries there. Mine are made by HOSA, and are relatively inexpensive.

I'd say broken cables will cause undesirable behaviors. Self explanatory really..
Pops & clicks are usually caused my mismatched sample clocks/wrong sync settings.
A 'broken" optical cable would more than likely not transfer the stream, therefore your system would show "no/invalid clock error"

happy tooling,
