Spdf Input to usb Mac
I'm looking to get a new Imac just to Mix and burn to.
I'll be running Peak, but I need to get into the Mac digitally. Also I want to keep it in OSX. Any cheap suggestions. I checked out the Edirol but it's 16 bit only and plays back at 48kHz only. Help!!!!

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
I used to be able to bounce through ethernet to my G3 but after my 5.1.3 upgrade I couldn't anymore. Is that what you are needing?

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
Sounds like from your post that you are looking for a USB interface that supports higher sample rates like 96k.
Your choices are limited, and you may not consider this cheap. The only interface I can think of that hooks up via USB and has high sample rates is the Apogee Mini Me. It supports sample rates up to 96k, and has a lot of nice features. But it goes for around $1395. But you could use it as a record path for remotes and other things. You have more choices if you can deal with a 48k limit. Even the Mbox will do this via spdif. Something a little more high quality (than Mbox) would be the USBpre. See it at www.usbpre.com It's about half the price of the Apogee.

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
I don't need the preamps and I don't really need 96kHz either.
The edirol cable doesn't do 44.1kHz (only 48) I would prefer 24 bit though.

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
Have you seriously considered a late generation Windows PC (with USB 2.0) ?
For example Wavelab 4 is a real killer for CD editing/mastering, and there is plenty of high quality hardware at reasonable prices. Considering that setting up a PC-Mac network is getting easier everyday, and you could even exchange files later on. Just a thought to meditate |

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
I actually considered going to the PC world, as I heard great things about WaveLab but I don't think I'm ready for a new operating system. OSX is bad enuff.
As far as the mBox I do own one (Hate it) but Pro Tools still makes you use those Split stereo files which makes it a bitch for cataloging stereo files. (I'm too lazy to convert) As far as that Edirol cable, it lets you record at 44.1 but playback at 48 only. Does that make sense to anyone.

Re: Spdf Input to usb Mac
If there is an ASIO driver for the MBox you can use it to record stereo interleaved files directly into PEAK. I used to do it with Digi001, and all of the 001's inputs as well as clock sources were available from within PEAK.
I'm not sure if there is an ASIO driver for MBox though. Good luck, Jeff D. |
