Default Waves 7 isn't working after installing iTunes 10 - FIXED!

EDIT - This is not an iTunes issue, it's related to a disk corruption....now the problem is solved!

I did...now Waves 7 isn't working!

They could be totally unrelated of course..but the only thing that's changed on my system is the update to iTunes 10. This morning, my previously rock solid LE rig won't load a session. Narrow it down to the Waves plugins in it (I have platinum and studio classics). Can open any session without waves plugs, or with all plugins deactivated. As soon as I try to open a waves plugin - spinny beach ball, and PT freezes.

Got a few things to try (latest version of Waves installers, latest PT updates) but just a word of warning. Waves tech support are looking into it for me.

Anyone else come up against this? if you have OSX 10.5.8/Waves 7/PT LE8/iTunes 10 on Mac Pro, I'd be interested to hear your exact versions for waves and LE, so I can see if I can rescue without having to system image my disk!

I updated to iTunes 10 and am running Waves 7.0.0.21.
I'm running an iMac w/ 10.5.8, PT LE 8.0.4 and do not have the issues you are having.

1. Try trashing prefs...
2. Try creating a new Admin profile and logging in...

hey, thanks for the replies.

Waves have actually been pretty good on the tech support so far.

I've done the usual prefs trash - they've given me detailed instructions for removing Waves totally and then re-installing. I've got the latest build of the installer, plus the 8.0.4 update so hopefully that might have some effect.

not just a PT thing apparently - Logic hangs when validating the first waves plugin...

EDIT - possibly not - it's just taking at least 2min to validate each waves plugin.

PT LE 8.0.4 + Waves Maserati GRP update 7.1.3 + itunes 9 (!)

Everytime I use the new GRP plugin, PT crashes completely. It only appears with this specific plugin.

Hey all - thanks for the replies.

Looks like it may not be iTunes related at all, but there is something screwy going on with my Mac.

Last night the front FW ports died on me, so if I want to get THAT fixed, that's going to be an expensive job. Oh well - I doubt that's related.

Anyway, I cloned my (still working) studio HD (from an identical mac - when I set this up, I cloned my home system and it's worked flawlessly). Took it home...now, on this rig SOME waves plugins worked, but many didn't - bizarrely, All the Studio Classics compressors worked, but only the V-series EQs - the rest caused the beach ball error! likewise, many of the Platinum collection plugins worked, but some crashed.

Tried to update to latest 7.1 Waveshell on this rig - now it doesn't load at all!

I'm going to check that it's not a compatibility issue (no reason why it should be, but you never know...) with another plugin, then I'm going to use my external drive to do a fresh install, starting with just OS/PT/Waves then go from there.

So far, I'm looking at 5 options:

Something in my Mac Pro has failed, and it's causing problems with Waves.

Something has gone wrong iLok-related - although my iLok works fine in my other rig! so it could be related to a problem with the mac itself (v unlikely I think, my iLok is recognised fine, it's only waves that has these issues, every other plugin works fine, and iLok.com works fine as well).

There's a corrupted session which won't load with waves plugins - and once it's failed to load, it "breaks" Waves somehow (sounds really unlikely to me).

Something weird with the install - where waves is getting corrupted moving between machines, getting confused and not looking in the right place for the fresh installation. Hopefully re-installing on the FW drive will determine this.

There's a plugin conflict that's randomly chosen now to appear.

Thanks for contributions from all - I'll report back here when I have a better idea of what's going on!

Update:

By removing the following plugins from the Waves plugins folder, I can run as normal:

API 550/560
Doubler
H-Delay
IDR
IR-L
LinEQ + MB
MaxxBass
RComp
RDeEsser
REQ
RVerb
RVox
SSL Channel
SuperTap
UltraPitch
WaveTuneLT.

Which is very bizarre...because it means the SSL G EQ and Compressor work, but the channel strips don't..RenAxx works, so does RBass but RComp doesn't...totally random!

Ok, I've sussed it.

The iTunes 10 WAS a total red herring.

For some reason one of my audio drives had corrupted (which it has done before, but never where it's affected plug ins before). Functionally this drive appeared normal, it was only when I took all the drives out and booted from an external system drive, that the problem became clear - I thought it was a conflict with the internal system drive, but that's all fine.

As an aside, diskwarrior did find the problem but couldn't fix it, so reformatting was the order of the day. That said, this audio drive now can't be trusted and is going to be replaced and only used as a transfer drive from now on!

Thanks to all those who helped.
