Default Changing Sample Rate with CoreAudio

How do I change sample rate for the CoreAudio Manager outside of pro-tools?

I use CoreAudio to play music from the web or itunes and it only works on 48, I don't know why. But i have been going into pro tools, setting up a 48 session, quitting P-Ts and then relaunching the program I need. Gotta be an easier way, but sample rate isn't in the CoreAudio preferences. ??? Anybody know?
