Default Can't connect Fantom X6 via S/PDIF to 003r

I have been trying to connect the digital out of the Fantom to the digital in of the 003. The input on track is set right, it is record enabled, no signal seen. Checked the cable. I just want to free up a couple of the analog inputs. It has worked in the past - I had a VS2480 digital out connected and it worked. Any advise would be appreciated. Running Windows 7, PT 8.0.3. Are there issues with Roland? Heard of a similar prob with Yamaha Motif.

Maybe you need to go into the utility menu and assign the synth to use the SPDIF output? I wonder if it can be set to mirror the analog outs, or if you have to choose one or the other. Anyway, start with the Fantom manual since the SPDIF inputs of the 003r work(you may also need to clock Pro Tools to SPDIF if you hear clicks and pops from the keyboard).

I have an older fantom-s and the spdif always mirrors the main outs (A outputs 1-2).

make sure spdif is set to coax and NOT optical( in protools) unless you are using the optical. and yes, you want the clock to come from the fantom or you may get clicks and pops every now and then. also, you must record enable your track in order to here it. sorry if that part sounds obvious but sometimes that's the stuff we forget first. Also check easy mistakes like if you have the cable on the input of the 003 and not the output, check that your track inputs are set to spdif 1-2. Good luck
