Default Unable to find 002R in PT8

Well, finally updated my studio PC to PT8 and now it won't detect the Digidesign hardware, my Digi002 Rack. This worked perfectly fine in 7.3. I know the firewire ports on the PC work (tested them with hard drive). The LINK light on the back of the 002 is green but the 1394 light on the front is dark. I've re-installed the PACE drivers, re-installed Pro Tools and cursed a lot just in case that would help.

So...please tell me someone has the answer and it had better not involve buying an 003 or I'm going to just jump off the roof.

Please help guys

The 002 should work just fine with PT8. Have you replaced or reseated the power harness yet? They always work fine, right up to the moment when they stop....

PS, you can also try a different firewire cable as they do fail. And maybe reseat the firewire card(if its a separate PCI card)

Tried 3 different FW cables. As for power harness, not sure on that one. The 002 itself has power, sample rate light on and mute indicator on. For that matter that little green LINK light is on where the FW cable plugs in. But...the 1394 light isn't on and PT isn't finding it. I plugged a FW hard drive into that port on the PC and it works fine so it's not the PCI card.

I've tried updated PT to CS3 just in case but no change.

DON'T hot swap it (plug/unplug the FW cable with the unit turned on!) It'll fry the internal FW controller. ALWAYS turn it off before you swap firewire cables......

I have the exact same problem with my 003. My motherboard does not have inbuilt firewire so I bought some cheap RITMO firewire card, works fine with a portable HDD but not the 003, whenever I start LE it can't find the hardware.

I think I'm going to look for a new firewire card, and if that doesn't work maybe a new motherboard, although i just got this one...

You absolutely need an approved firewire card or you are just wasting money. Click on the Compatibility & Upgrades link(top of this page) and navigate to where DIGI lists some cards that are known to work well.
