Question on hardware inserts
So I added a 192 to my rig(along with a pair of HD IO's) to give me 8 hardware inserts during mix-down. What is odd to me is the latency compensation showing on the rest of the tracks with the hardware insert active. The last track on the right(SN101) shows 228 samples(it has a hardware insert), but look at the rest of the tracks. As soon as I remove the hardware insert, or make it inactive, the rest of the tracks go back to 0 latency comp. In this scenario, SNR01 and SN101 are bused to the 2 AUDIO tracks so I could record the same audio, 1 track without the hardware insert, and the other WITH a hardware insert. When I enter record, I hear the 2 audio tracks flamming. When I stop and just playback, the 2 tracks sound as one(no flamming). I'm confused

Re: Question on hardware inserts
I can't speak to your issues, but I have been doing hardware inserts for well over a decade and never have any issues. I don't seem to understand why a computer build would have anything to do with that, as I thought I had read prior to me chiming in.
On a separate note, I hope you have a patchbay incorporated into your Hardware Inserts. If I had to choose which converter to use for my hardware I/O, it would be the HD I/O over the 192.....Think about that. If wired into a patchbay properly, you can get more mileage out of your existing I/O's. The biggest downside to doing hardware inserts in a digital domain, is all of the conversion back and forth, clearing showing he need for your best conversion on hardware inserts.

Question on hardware inserts

Won't this be adjusted b/c of the settings in the IO page, where it says 'adjust for delay after record pass' Maybe it says it differently but it's something like that.... As to why, I have no idea....shut your system down and see if it changes...I have had weird situations when only after I quit PT and then restarted it, did the delay comp settings change. I don't use inserts so it's not familiar territory for me......

Re: Question on hardware inserts
Got a spanking new Redco tt bay in place. I added the 192 mostly for the extra analog IO for 8 hardware inserts(as all the analog IO was used up on my 2xHD IO 8x8x8's). Oddly enough, tracking with a hardware insert works fine. Its only when I bused to tracks that all the extra ADC kicks in. Guess I need to experiment more and just figure out what works and what doesn't

Re: Question on hardware inserts
What would be cool then, is to wire up the insert on an HDIo 8x8. So sans 192 and see if PT reports the same delay

Re: Question on hardware inserts
Probably would be cool, but in all honesty, the rack is too much of a PITA to experiment. I suspect most of my patching to outboard will be during tracking anyway. I was curious if anyone else was seeing absurd ADC numbers. I had a similar issue a while back but it turned out that I actually had a send on my AUX track feeding itself(send was all the way down so it didn't cause a feedback loop). Once I deleted that send, ADC numbers went back to correct. Its a headscratcher
