Default Video to external monitor recommendations

In the process of planning out an upgrade from PT10 on a cheese grater to a Mac Mini M1.

The M1 only supports 2 monitors, and I am using them for desktops, and I would prefer full screen output to my projector over a 3rd desktop anyway.

Can I use an AJA thunderbolt for HDMI output from Pro Tools or what can I use?

Thanks!

I think that is 2 monitors over Thunderbolt. Doesn't it have an HDMI out. HDMI out to video monitor.

Then use one of these options.

Double check on the monitors because all I remember was that it said over Thunderbolt.

Hmmm, I read it 2 total. I am using one from the built in HDMI out and then a Thunderbolt to HDMI. I have not tried a 3rd to even challenge that assumption.

Can you get fullscreen video on one of those? I always disliked having the Window frame top bar above the video. But I can crop/zoom the projector to hide it.

So I see it possible... thanks something to consider in addition to a dedicated video out.

Check this. I think it is possible if you have something like this.

https://www.sonnetstore.com/collecti...k-display-dock

Just use one HDMI for your projector. However, I think the border edge is built into the OS if you are using a display port. If you have an external box and set protools to external video (whatever it is in the menu) you won't get the border.

If you get a displaylink adapter and use that for one of your monitors, you can run three. I did this with my M1 Mac Mini and it worked fine. You need to have the displaylink driver running all the time.

USB-C is redundant. I assume you mean it is TB, but what adapter are you using and what M1 do you have?

that would help.

Will the AJA work if I want to use external video for full screen playback? OR a UltraStudio Monitor 3G?

Is there a similar device that is better? Is there a specific model of the AJA I should look for?

If not I will try the thunderbolt to dual HDMI, and likely get a thunderbolt expansion box from OWC

Here is a video about The Sonnettech 3 port monitor that works for Mac mini or Mac Air

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LucX...lHcsdr&index=8

I don't know much about AJA.

However, you might consider this expansion.
https://www.sonnetstore.com/collecti...o-express-se3e

OWC doesn't have many PCIe options. I saw only 1 with 1 PCIe slots where the Sonnet is 3 PCIe slots.

I know Blackmagic has PCIe cards for external video as well. Relatively inexpensive from what I remember. Might want to search youtube for some users experience.
