Default PC CPU Motherboard upgrade.

I've recently bought a Digi 002 rack, and then upgraded to pro tools 7. I noticed really bad latency within the program, so im thinking about upgrading my CPU and motherboard for better performance, been wanting to do this for some time anyways, now i have an excuse. Just wanted people's thoughts on this equipment:

http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=312032&cks=PRL

This kit includes:

* 307540 - Intel Pentium 4 660 3.6GHz Socket LGA775, 2MB, EM64T, BOXED w/fan

* 311867 - MSI 915P Combo2-F, I915P, Socket-775, S-ATA, ATX, GbLAN, DDR/DDR2, PCI-Ex16

* 312089 - TwinMOS DDR2 PC4300 1024MB Dual Pack KIT w/two matched DDR2 PC4300 512MB CL4

Just wondering if this is the right kind of upgrade to buy for what i wanna do with my computer. I literally only use Music Software on my computer but have A LOT of it. So im looking for high performance.

Upgrading your motherboard won't cure latency. Reducing your hardware buffer will reduce latency. If you're having latency issues on your current system, you should learn how to fix them before you upgrade your motherboard and CPU.
Now if you are having CPU issues, running out of CPU, or having errors during playback, then you might need an upgrade.

We really can't tell you if what you've listed will be an improvement if we don't know what you have now.

Also, for running Pro Tools, you really should stick to the recommendations in the Best Desktops for PTLE thread, or on the Compatibility page.

You're in the UK?

Is that based on the Allenstein list? Can you access all those items in the UK?

You should talk to Tim Crowfoot (ask for him in the tearoom) - he's UK based too and has just built an Allenstein PC. Actually, he said he was going to post something here about where he got all his bits, so maybe you could him a gentle nudge.

(p.s. Andrew, there really are some major problems with accessing items you guys take for granted. Many are not stocked here, and some US companies refuse to ship overseas - I think it's do with the US Govt seeing computers as having potential military/terrorist uses and so have put up barriers to trade.)
