Default 192 I/O: how bad?

I still use my 192 I/O, although not the converters. Convertion is done by external dCS converters connected to a digital card. And the clock is also an external dCS.

I always assumed that the 192 I/O only works like a "connector" between my converters and Protools, the way I use it. But is this really the case?
I read that new interfaces are a lot better than the 192 I/O. Do I get a better sound quality when I would replace the 192 I/O with a modern interface?

Thanks,

Best, Niels
