Default Fast Track USB and Pro Tools 10

Hey all!

I've just recently moved over from using M-Powered 8 to Pro Tools 10 using an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface and I can't find a way to track with it. I've installed the drivers for it but I just can't see a way to select the input from the Fast Track.

The only options I get are:
interface -> Built-in microphone 1 (Mono)
interface -> Built-in microphone 2 (Mono)
interface -> Built-in input 1 - path n/a
interface -> Built-in input 2 - path n/a

My guitar sound is coming through the speakers via the Fast Track, but is unaffected by the Gain and Output dials, it is as though it is going straight through the interface to the speakers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Is your interface selected as the playback engine in Setup/Playback Engine?

Yes, I just checked, and the Fast Track interface is selected.

You can try adding the manually I/O in the preferences menu Setup/I/O (can't remember, not at my pc right now) also click defaul all busses under the bus tab and see if that helps

I'm not really sure how to do that. I find that menu screen quite intimidating

When I hit Track Record Enable i get a message saying "The track could not be record-enabled because it doesn't have both an active input and output assigned"

It can be intimidating, that message is there because your interface is not setup properly.

It usually just means what it says. There is no active input and output on that track. Go to the track IO input selector and pick the input you want to use. Ditto for the output, which should be set to somethign like "Main output L/R". If that does not work or you are lost post a screen shot showing the track input selector (and ideally showing the options available when you click on the selector or just list them here). You can also just try creating a new session.

Go to setup+I/O
Under Input, Output tab select default
Under Bus tab select all busses in the drop down menu and the click default

If this does not work:

Go back to Input tab
Select new path
1 mono track and name it input 1
check both boxes
Click Ok and try again to record

This kind of worked! Thanks heaps! I can record into a PT track now, however I still cannot control the input Gain on the Fast Track. The Fast track doesn't appear in the input -> interface menu.

I have installed the driver for the Fast Track, so I'm not sure why it's not showing up. If I select the Fast Track in the Playback Engine window the only options I have for input are as above (in the image). I don't get any errors when I start recording however nothing records either. I've tried all the inputs listed.

Using Pro Tools Aggregate I/O I have these options:

Obviously none of these worked either except for the built-in mic which captured nothing but the sound of my frustration

When I used the M-Powered Pro Tools 8 the Fast Track worked fine, I'm very lost as to why this would be more difficult to setup

Another thought comes to mind. I'm running OSX 10.8.3, should I download and install this update? Would it help my issue?
