Default Speed of Hard disk and Buffer

Hi everyone!

Can anyone answer me those?

1. If a external harddisk(7200 rpm) is connected to a laptop via firewire 400 port, the speed of internal drive is 5400 rpm, does the external drive slow down to 5400 rpm?

2. Can really a lap top G4 handle firwire 800?

3. Does The Record and Play buffer use RAM or hard drive?

Thanx

Default Re: Speed of Hard disk and Buffer

1) no, the speed of the hard drive doesn't change.
2) why not? Most devices (drives especially) are slower, in terms of sustained data rate, than even FW 400.
3) I'm not sure I understand this question. Disk I/O is buffered in RAM, but not a whole lot. During record and playback, the disk is accessed quite frequently.
