Default Disck Allocation Problem

Thanks for reading this thread.
I am working with PT 6.4 cs9 on a PC ( windows XP)with my C disck for prog. files and D for storage of files.
Some time ago more and more frequently the PC did not see the D disk anymore.( it came back after re-start most of the time )
Presuming a upcoming HD chrash I saved everything from D to C.
Having removed D and installed a new HD again named D it appeared to be the Sata either cable or port that was failing.
Changed the new HD ( named D ) into F and reinstalled D again on another Sata port which now works fine again.
Now come to the problem : When I try to open a previously recorded file I get the screen Check disk allocation.
Checking all the options given in that and the following screens I cannot get back my recorded tracks. The information says
:" x files are on volumes unsuitable for playback. ".
Going to the Check disk allocation window I see the track s indicated as being on C: but I cannot find a way to get them back into my files.
New recording works fine.
Who can help me restoring my old files.
Thanks in advance.
Pierre

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, but...

Have you not kept backups of your files ie. a clone of your D: drive?

Do you still have the drive intact that was expected to fail? If that drive is not failing and it was only a cable or port, I don't understand why you can't rename it D: and point back to the way it was set up originally. Even if you have in some way corrupted the session file you could go back to the most recent auto save. The files on C: could be corrupted by the transfer but the D: files should be solid if you were using them successfully prior to this meltdown.

And for the sake of others who may read this thread...

As has been said around here for years, If you don't have it in at least 3 separate places... you don't have it.

Tom , thanks for responding to my message.
As I wrote in my quest , after having found out that it was not the D disk but the Sata port , without having changed anything to D , I put it back in place again.
Since I had not deleted anything but just copied from D to C , I supposed everything would be back to normal again.
So after the event I have brought everything back to the way it was before. That's why I do'nt understand what is happening.
What culd have corrupted files was that when I installed the new disk , it initially looked as if it was working wel. I then started to copy back the files I had copied to C. Whilst working on that the system lost contact with D again which made me know it was'nt the D disc.
Nonetheless, at the end of the day I put D back where it had been with the files that had always been on it so , back to normal again.
I do hope someone can help me.
Pierre

Okay, I didn't know about that. First try running chkdsk on the drive. Don't repair yet, just see what it tells you. And you should do the same with the c: drive.

So I ran chkdsk on both D and C and it came out with no errors indicated.
( which took a while since they are 300 /250 GB respectively)
No mention of anything that should be repaired.

Hi Pierre & WELCOME to the DUCZ...

Have u tried creating a new session & importing the audio? (still could be a bust if its sayin the audio is unsuitable for playback/I've not seen that 1 before)...

Hi all,
I have found a way to restore my files.
Meanwhile I had copied the files previously copied from D to C , to the new disk F
When ,after trying to open the file the " check Disk Allocation " window pops up , I choose " no ".
When the file opens the request comes " would you like to copy the missing files to a suitable volume " I there refer to the audio files in F and , voila , they are copied back to the original place.
I hope someone with the same problem is helped with this solution.
Theanks anyway for your attenyion and help.
Pierre
