Default Electric drums through midi point on mbox 3

I'm having trouble connecting drums to pro tools. I have a dtx500 drum module with a midi output and it's connected through the midi input on an mbox 3. What track do I use and what inputs and outputs should I be using? And is there anything I need to do to set up midi on pro tools 10? Thank you.

Default Re: Electric drums through midi point on mbox 3

Are you using it to record the sounds from your DTX500 module? Or are you just using it to trigger a drum software program such as EZ Drummer, BFD, etc.?

If you're just triggering a software instrument, then create a stereo instrument track, and insert the software instrument. Then record enable the track, press record in the transport window, and it will record your midi info as your playing.

If you want to actually record the sounds from your DTX500, then create a midi track to record your midi, and create audio tracks (however many you need) to record the outputs from your drum module. You will need to hook up audio cables from your drum module to the appropriate inputs on your interface, and set the audio tracks' inputs to correspond with those.

In your signature, you have an Imac. If your computer has trouble recognizing you have something hooked up by midi, go under Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Setup, and click "Rescan Devices".
