Default Re: The -20 dB discussion

When you're mixing for a 5.1, 700 seat theater with a 30 foot screen and the film has a scene change cutting from empty late-night hospital corridor to close up of a car bomb exploding, you'll find yourself thanking Sony for giving us those 20dB's of headroom. Point being, 20dB's is actually not a bad compromise IMHO. (have I mixed for the above mentioned situation?? well, um, not yet) Richard Fairbanks and Dr. Sound, great replies both!
