Default recording track count for G4 single 867?

I'm trying to set up a small PT rig that I can use to record my band jamming live in our studio. I'm probably going to go with an 002r or a pro tools M-powered system with the 1814 interface......

regardless, I want to be able to track up to 16 tracks at a time max via analog and lightpipe

I use a G5 for mixing at home but I can't take it to the jam studio.

The only extra computer I have is a single processor 867 mhz G4

That is the first computer I used for pro tools, but I never tried to record more than 8 tracks with it at a time.

Anyone know if that machine is capable of tracking 16 tracks at a time on an LE system?

I'm also trying to decide if that machine would benefit performance-wise from installing Tiger on it with PT 6.9.2, or if the clock speed is just not enough for Tiger and should leave Panther on it and stick to PT 6.4

anyone got any experience with that many tracks recording at once on a G4 single 867??

thanks for the input!

If you look at the Speedmark scores you'll already see the performance hit that Tiger causes compared to Panther.

Where can we see Speedmark scores which compare identical systems whose only difference is Tiger vs. Panther?

At any rate your 867 should track 16 inputs at a time with no trouble. Just do the mixing on your G5. ( youll definitely need a second hard drive)

You can see them at MacWorld, you just need to know what number to enter to see the test for a given model.
Their numbers adjust and migrate as the line does so if Apple drops a products it's dropped from the next months testing.

Few examples:

Panther
12" 1.2 iBook was 106
14" 1.33 iBook was 116
15" 1.5 PB was 136
17" 1.67 PB was 148

Tiger
12" 1.2 iBook now 90
14" 1.33 iBook was 100
15" 1.5 PB now 123
17" 1.67 PB now 135

so I'm now reading that M-powered systems require at least a 933 mhz G4 and I only have an 867. I wanted to possibly get the m-audio firewire 1814

anyone have experience with this working on a G4 that is less than 933 mhz? I'll be bummed if it really won't work
