Default moving Protools 12.6 HDX from mac to Windows 10

hi all,

I am planning to migrate a v12.6 HDX1 rig from a 2010 Mac Pro [with CPU upgrade] to a new superstar PC running Win10 [i7 6950X-based machine]

my first question is: will it work?

My system will be built by the PC audio specialists at Scan UK. They know their stuff but are maybe less experienced with HDX and any special requirements it may have.

would love to hear about the experiences of others who have made the journey from Mac to PC for Protools. Any tips or things to watch out for? [I have heard that key commands can mess with your mind a little]

also: if anyone knows of a good guide for optimising Win10 for HDX / Protools 12 then I would be much obliged. I am venturing into uncharted waters with relatively little PC know-how so any and all comments welcome!

Yes. should all work dandy. You will need to re-learn lots of your keyboard shortcuts, but its not too bad(I go from my PC rig to a friend's Mac system about twice a year, so I know that drill).

It'll work , if you want a machine designed and ready optimised to work with Avid hardware and Pro Tools software and want the tech support knowledge to back it up included free you could look at our machines shameless plug but you did note about scans potential knowledge lacking with HDX.

BTW, make sure the new PC case has room for the HDX card

You'll also need the PC molex power cable that should have come with the HDX card , it's different from the mac one which won't plug into any power connectors on a PC power supply.

You can use keytweak to make the keyboard shortcuts the same as osx

What about plug-ins?
If you make the move from Mac to Windows don't you have to go find installers for all your third party plug ins that are windows PC AAX?
I have not done the research but, aren't many 3rd party AAX plugs Mac AAX only?

This is a factor that I don't see people consider when trying to migrate form Mac to PC.

It's really not much of an issue anymore almost everything is both mac and PC compatible these days but if you want to be totally sure it's really easy to check and there are so many plugins on the market that there's an alternative for almost everything at any budget from free to big bucks .
