Default Who Thought 30GB Download Was A Good Idea?

I find myself getting more and more p.o'd over this whole Expansion Pack Download thing. The genuis at Avid who thought this up should be fired. I spent two days going back and forth with them and their online stores just trying to find the disk... which will cost me $30 extra...

Let's see here: 4.5 hours to download 3.6GB X remaining files to download = too damn long

Perhaps one day, everyone will have T3 connections and this won't be a big deal. That day isn't today...

Took me about a week and a half to download both Mac and PC, A lot of folks like downloads over disks. I bought the disk set to just cover my butt.

I downloaded the upgrade from PT 7.3 to 8.0 but, it wasn't 30GB. I can't just sit my MBP somewhere and let it download files for a 9 or 10 days.

Maybe your ordering the disk expereience was more straight forward than mine. My salesperson is on vacation at Sweetwater and calling Avid / Digi was a waste of time- hours, literally...

Hmm... I ordered my disks from the Digi store on the first day figuring they would be out of stock shortly. I waited 2-3 days before I actually bought the upgrade.

It's a situation of a lot of folks not wanting to wait for the package to ship, not wanting to pay extra for the media and preferring to download the stuff right way Vs boxed only with the additional cost of packaging and shipping. It's fairly safe to assume that Digi was able to price the downloadable upgrades cheaper since they weren't including the disks.

When I began to check their site, oh about a week ago, download was the only option available... There was no mention of any disks...

In defence of Avid, I ordered on the day of release and my download was fine. Took a few hours but no problems.

I burned back-up DVDs and needed a Dual Layer for one of the disks. The file size was 4.88GB.

A few hours for 30GB, seriously? What DSL connection do you have T3? Really, in four and a half hours I downloaded Velvet about 450MB and the 1st Strike Disk (about 3.7GB). Maybe the problem lies in their download manager but after 8 & 1/2 hours I had downloaded the Third Strike Disk (another 3.5GB or so).
