And the bigger question is..."what are they up to?"

They have always wanted the software attached to the hardware for sales.

Why do they suddenly NOT want that???

What is the possible upside for them....?

The only thing I can think of is they don't ever want to see another used HD rig on the market.

I can't even find the new form again to add the link.

It doesn't seem to be on the Licensing page. Just more nonsense from these guys. Leaving obsolete forms with incorrect instructions is another example of either incompetence or intentional obfuscation. A simple question that should have a clear and unambiguous answer - how do I sell my system? Pathetic...

-------------------
Want to talk about convoluted process to find simple information???

remembered that I first looked for the Licensing FAQ that used to be a link on the licensing page but is no longer listed there - when you open this you will see it was updated on 12_22_15 with no mention of whats changed
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...-Licensing-FAQ

This then provides a link to the current TOO page - this page when you get there will tell you it was updated on 12-10-2015 again with no mention of whats changed
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/faq/en363631

which finally gives a link to the form - which will tell you nothing about when it was changed or when it is valid till...

AND

Regarding "its been posted since September......."

That aside....

A YEAR AGO when I upgraded to 12HD this was certainly NOT the policy.

I was not told,"if you do this, you can no longer sell your system."

On the contrary, the policy was that the hardware and software always needed to stay together and be sold as one.

Here is the silly thing, I have an extra PT10HD license that I use as a back up that I have been upgrading since PT7, which I would probably upgrade to 12HD, just to have it up to date....but knowing I then would never be able to sell it....I won't. It's actually worth more staying as PT10HD than being upgraded.

Right now it is worth $800-1000. If I pay $600 to upgrade it, it is worth $0.

To the Seller of Digidesign equipment and software:
Digidesign Pro Tools core hardware systems include Pro Tools software and must be transferred and registered as a single unit. Pro Tools TDM core systems include Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools|24 MIX, and Pro Tools|24. Pro Tools LE core systems: 003 Family, Mbox 2 Family, Digi 002 Family, Mbox, Digi 001, AMIII. If you sell your master Pro Tools system core card (primary HD core, Mix core, d24, Pro Tools III Disk I/O card) or Pro Tools LE Core hardware, the Pro Tools software license will be transferred along with the core hardware from your record, and upon transfer you will no longer be eligible for software updates or upgrades associated with the core hardware sold.
Yes. This is exactly the issue, and why I also take exception to Christopher's comment in #24.

Avid's stated policy for 12HD software might make sense for those who are upgrading CPTK-era standalone licenses, but trying to apply it to licenses embedded in a full HD system clearly violates Avid's own policy for systems. This conflict of interest raises questionable legality, and I think strongly implies that Avid's business team has not thought this one through.
