Thumbs up Re: Eleven Rack Firmware Update issue - Windows Vista

Issue solved!
The 1.0.2 updater worked fine.
I said before that it didn´t work, but I think I was using the 1.0.1 executable file. My mistake.

thanks
Felipe

Mine did that too. Hung for like 2 minutes. Vista Home Premium. But then I simply left clicked on the update window's title bar and it installed without a hitch.

Tried the 1.0.3 update and the problem happened again.
It freezes on the "Updating Eleven Rack firmware" window.
Still using Windows Vista Home Premium edition.

make sure you have SP1. SP2 worked better for me when i was on Vista.
Just installing updates from Windows Updates does not mean you have SP1.

A lot of times you need to install it manually from the Microsoft website.

Go to Control Panel> System. What version of Vista does it show? If you have SP1 or SP2 it will say.

If you are still not sure Post a Sandra Report and i will check for you.

Haha, I always laugh when at the first sign of a problem the apple brigade yell "get a Mac" when 9 times out of ten it's the clowns (including me) using windows that are the problem!

Good luck, I've never been able to get any updates using my computer. Using the same OS as you.

Not sure why you are having such trouble with Vista, i used it for a couple years and I liked it alot for Pro Tools, and I wasn't the only one, Recording Magazine had an article (about 2 years ago) stating that Vista was a much better OS for a DAW PC than XP ever was.

perhaps its time to consider Windows 7. Avid has announced the Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 is the last version to support XP and Vista, so if you want to upgrade to the next version of Pro Tools.... whenever that is.... you will need Windows 7.

So i assume that according to what some of the Avid employees have said about Upgrades/Additions to the Eleven Rack (new effects, amps ect..) must coincide with a Pro Tools release.... then presumably you wouldn't be able to use the new item(s)....at least in the Pro Tools Eleven Rack Window.

Maybe Chimp or Chris could confirm or deny this.

Vista is definitely going the way of the Dipthosaurus...I would highly recommend making the move to Windows 7. Benoni's right that 8.0.4 will be the last LE version to support Vista.

Remember that when updating Firmware, it doesn't work exactly like a standard Pro Tools or Driver installation.

For Pro Tools, you are told to ignore any "Found New Hardware" dialogs.

For the Firmware Update, if you see a "Found New Hardware" dialog, you should NOT ignore it. You should allow it to find the driver it needs automatically. Then the rest of the install should go OK.

Just throwing it out there....
