Default headphones VS Monitors

hi im using headphones with 11r and it sounds good (maybe a little "breathless"),
but i was guessing how it works with full range monitors?is it an improvement over headphones or its just different?
do the sound coming open from monitors became a little more "alive"?
pros and cons?

Call me mental but I find I can get my picking slightly tighter in the cans. I assume this is due to the fact they are inches from your ears as opposed to feet away. Its not like its a huge difference and may be more imagined than real. Try it both ways and see what you like.

I would reccomend using headphones only for tracking vocals and acoustic instruments if you value your hearing.

It's also easier to create mixes that translate well on other systems using good monitors in a good room. This is not as easy on headphones because of lack of low frequency and crosstalk.

Personally I like using monitors because you just can't get Air moving in headphones so it feels more real to me when listening 'from a distance'. The thing with monitors though, is they are best when listened to in a treated room. That brings added expense into the equation.

Having said that, there are obviously times when headphones are the best option especially when not wanting to disturb neighbors or others in the house. My ears get fatigued more easily when using headphones for long periods of time compared to using monitors though.
