No that is incorrect. AMD Turion and Sempron processors are not recommended due to known issues. The same applies to AMD Athlon 64 X2 - K9 models due to those processors not supporting SSE instructions. Pro Tools requires and uses SSE instructions.

Pro Tools requires a Dedicated Graphic Controller and thus I will not recommend and will advise users not to use your build due to the Cougar Point H67 Chipset hosting an Integrated Graphics Controller. That is any motherboard with the prefix H67 in it's name have an Integrated Graphics Controller and is not a Pro Tools requirement.

Although, you should be able to actually disable the onboard graphic chip in the bios, which shouldn't pause any problems after that if the person places a video card in one of the slots.

Hi Emcha

This maybe so but it would be more prudent to use a non-integrated graphics controller motherboard such as the P67 if the opinion was available, no?

Filosofem, I recently began the hunt for a new mobo and cpu for my new omni native rig. I have read good reviews on the duc on the new z68 chipsets paired with the intel i7 sandy bridge 2600k cpu... but I have also read online that the z68 chipsets have integrated graphics similar to H67 chipsets... does this mean all the threads speaking the praises of the z68 chipset are wrong? If so, which chipset would you reccomend?

Hi Mascola24

Read up on the specs for GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD5-B3.

wow i was just reading up on that last night. I guess I confused myself because newegg says there is no onbaord video chipset, however i read this in a review about z68 chipsets in general:

'Socket 1155 processors have an integrated video processor, but the P67 chipset won’t allow you to use it since it is targeted to consumers that will have a physical video card. With the Z68, the use of an integrated video processor is possible if the motherboard manufacturer added video connectors on the motherboard. This way, Intel won’t be releasing an “H68” chipset.'

I don't know the total ins and outs of the Intel Z68 Chipset but I do know that one must double check every specification. And if that Gigabyte motherboard says it doesn't support integrated graphics, then that's good enough for me.

Tell us how you get on. Intel Z68 Chipset and Pro Tools HD Native probably be a first.
