Default FYI Waves 9.92 Update...

Putting this up in case anyone else has the same issue.

PT 12.8.3 on W10 Pro up-to-date.

Today I opened WLC and a) there was an update to that, so proceeded and b) there were updates to my Waves plug-ins, so proceeded with them.

Open Trasher, back up Preferences, delete as usual, empty Recycle Bin, Reboot, restore Preferences and try to open Pro Tools. OOOPS, need to locate Waves 9.91 folder. What, I now have Waves 9.92? Try to find folder, can't seem to, then cancel, PT crashes. Do the Trasher dance again, same issue.

Navigate to the PT plug-ins folder and find folders for 9.91, a copy of 9.91 and 9.92. Moved the two 9.91 folders to the Desktop, did the Trasher dance again and...yes Pro Tools now functions properly.

I never use Trasher to update Waves, I did the normal upgrade yesterday and it was fine. Just curious, why would you do it?

Ah, I used WLC - Waves License Center - to update Waves, Trasher had nothing to do with the update itself.

Anytime you update anything peripherally involved with PT, and updating plug-ins certainly qualifies, it is best practice to delete databases and preferences, empty the recycle bin, reboot and then start Pro Tools. Also a good first thing to do if PT is "acting up". Thanks to guitardom, Trasher allows you to easily do the databases and preferences deletions easily, along with many other things, in particular, back up and restore preferences.

Allright thank you for the explanation, I use Trasher but I have never had any problems with Pro Tools after updating plugins so I only use it to backup my settings etc and to trash everything in case of general weirdness but that's extremely rare, since 12.8.3 my system has been as stable as it used to be 3 or more years ago.

I have 12.8.2 on my laptops and 12.8.3 on my desktop(win 7). Guess which one decided it cant find the wave shells? NO issues just doing straight WLC update and download on both laptops. I'll have to try your fix on the desktop, as it is I was going to go back to 12.8 on the desktop also if necessary. Hope not

Never had any problemever updating pluginsand VI EXCEPT for AIR IEP3 and Waves which Always without skipping a beat messes up PT and a troubleshooting process takes priority and wasted time and energy.

Why is it that WLC is soo weird and unstable when updating any waves. And why do we have to reinstall ALL our Waves plugins everytime we get a new plugin?? Not that we do buy any waves since we sold off Mercury to a sad person who now have found he could have bought Mercury new for 2K less than he paid me just 17 months ago ...

All these Waves deals is making my head spin so I have deactivated all emails from them now and forever .. Hasta Never!

Thanks for the tip. I had excatly the same problem. PT stopped at asking 9.91 plugin folder, canceling caused the crashing. Removing 9.91 folder from the pro tools audio path solved my problem

In w10 you can find it there:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
