Default Stochas vst sequencer plugin in Patchworks?

This sequencer comes as a free vst/au plugin and I've tried to use it with Blue Cat Patchworks.

the main Stochas website.

It seems to work, except I can't find a way to route its midi output to a VI instrument plugin. I haven't used Patchworks much, so I'm hoping that there is something I'm missing.

Any ideas?
Unfortunately, it doesn't come in standalone version.

Yeah !

I wanted that one too. Better yet, if you have it, the new Falcon version 2.1 seems similar (even close to identical) as a new feature. Check UVI Falcon 2.1 presentation on youtube.

HA! I figured it out.
(Using a sequencer AU plugin to control a VI in PT)

You need to have two instrument tracks. One with the AU or VST midi seqencer residing in Blue Cat Patchworks, and the other with a AAX VI inserted. Then it's only a matter of routing the Patchworks output to the VI. They show up in drop-down menus in the Instrument part of the track channel strip.

This means I can use any au/vst sequencer, arpeggiator and such to control any VI. Great!

I ran the Stochas Windows installer twice to add both the VST3 and Standalone versions - (pics included)

I can also load Stochas in the Standalone version of BlueCat's PatchWork

OK, I must have missed that.
I'll not be needing the standalone, I think, with the plugin integrating, it seems, within PT for transport, input and all.

Here's some old PatchWork notes you may (or may not) have seen:

https://www.bluecataudio.com/Blog/ti...nth-or-effect/

Use PatchWork for Effect Plug-Ins, and PatchWork Synth for VIs

Quoting from:
https://www.bluecataudio.com/Blog/pr...in-io-routing/

“16 outputs for your instruments and the ability to configure audio I/O for each plug-in

• Route any of the outputs of an instrument to any aux output of the PatchWork plug-in.
• Apply effects to a subset of audio channels (for example to apply multi -mono effects on stereo or surround tracks, or apply different effects to different aux outputs fro an instrument).
• Create sends from a channel to another (re-routing a processed signal to another aux output for example, while the dry signal is kept on the current channels).
• Reorder audio channels.
• Apply effects to the side chain bus, or use any audio channel as a side chain.
Of course latency is compensated on unprocessed channels (if you apply for example a mono plug-in with latency only on the left channel, the right channel will be delayed accordingly).
Check out the new “Audio I/O” command in the plug-in menu”

Thanks, unkJE.
Yes, WOW, I'm only just getting to know this plugin, even if I've had it for years. It seems an extremely versitile tool.
But still, I must insist that my little breakthru tonight was that, a little breakthru.

How many here have used vst sequencer plugins to trigger your AAX VIs, raise your hands? I thought not.

Or, with a VST3 VI inserted instead of an AAX VI, possibly hosted within a single instance of PatchWork Synth on just one Instrument Track?
(Yet to try this - could be totally wrong!)

I’ve triggered a drum VI with another VI, but never used a vst sequencer as a trigger.

This is no time for modesty, Ben, being this close to a major election – so I prefer to think of your “little breakthru” as something Bigger!

I tried that, and several configurations - the only way to get polyphonic midi output from a Patchwork AU/VST to a AAX VI (or a VST) is by routing it with in/out settings in Instrument settings on the two instrument tracks. I think this is the clue. Both PIs inside a Patchwork instance, they didn't connect.

I see it as a door opening, new possibilities for experiments. And thanks to Brian Eno. One of my heroes. I found out about this "randomizing sequencer" Stochas thanks to a Eno youtube video.

That's great!
I have a lot to learn I think.
Thanks.

Realised I’d forgotten this great 2013 Thread by DonaldM – where Blue Cat Audio chimed in to help route Cthulhu chord/arp generator to any other VI in PT, using 2 instances of Blue Cat PatchWork Synth on one Instrument track and 2 MIDI tracks
