Default Strike can't receive MIDI from my AKAI MPD18

I'm trying to trigger the drum sounds in Strike 1.5 in PT10 on a Mac. Under MIDI devices I can see my AKAI MPD18 but when I created an Instrument Track with Strike I can only select an interface input from my 003R or a BUS (I don't see an option to use the AKAI MPD for the input or even a MIDI channel). When I move a fader on the MPD18 it says something about "Master Level Automation : -2.0 DB" so it seems like it is recongizing it but I can't hit a pad and get a drum sound like I did in the past with either PT9 or PT8 (I can't remember when I did this before).
