Default setup macbook pro-> ext harddrive-> mbox2pro

Can`t see any advice on the right setup. Macbook have both firewire 400 and 800 but shouldn`t be used at the same time for different equipment I understand? So I can`t use the 400 port to Mbox and the 800 port to ext harddrive, right? Do I then connect from firewire 400 port on macbook to harddrive and from harddrive to Mbox instead? Pls advice

That would be the way to go.
